Who makes Markpin
Made by mud-studio
Markpin is a personal side project by one person, Gyopil Seo (gyofeel), published under the name mud studio.
Who
Gyopil Seo, a developer of eight years, builds Markpin alone from Korea. In posts and communities he writes as gyofeel; on the Chrome Web Store, npm and GitHub the publisher is mud studio. Same person.
Why
He has read technical articles since before his first developer job. There was rarely time to read them during the workday, so they went into Notion and Chrome bookmarks, where the links piled up and the reading never did. Half-read articles lost their place. Thoughts that came up while reading were too much trouble to write down somewhere else, so they slipped away.
So he built the paper-book habits into the browser: underline a line, write one line about why, leave a bookmark, open it again later. Work started in autumn 2025, paused for a long while, and took its current shape in autumn 2026.
What it is, and what it isn't
What you leave behind while reading stays in your hands as files. That is the whole idea.
- A free Chrome extension. No account, no server, no usage analytics.
- Connect a folder or Google Drive and each page you save becomes one Markdown file there. Uninstall Markpin and the files stay.
- The MCP server, @markpin/mcp, is open source under the MIT license. The extension itself is not open source.
- A paid add-on called Markpin Plus is in the works. One purchase, no renewal, and the free version stays free.
- No PDF, no mobile. Needs Chrome 122 or later.
